The CCAC is a unique collection of South African and international artwork that stimulates debate and research on the roles of the Constitution and the Constitutional Court of South Africa. The CCAC is one of the most important art collections in South Africa and relies heavily on donations for the works to be maintained (the Court needs to remain impartial, and therefore cannot receive donations from South African citizens to look after it.) The CCAC approached us to develop an identity for the collection so that they could raise awareness around it with the aim of raising funds outside of South African borders for its maintenance.
Our brief was to design and develop an identity, publications, collateral, signage as well as a website for the CCAC. We chose to use the type that was designed by Garth Walker for the Court building’s exterior as the type for the CCAC logo in order to leverage the existing visual language of the collection. We selected key pieces of the core collection to use as visuals across the collateral, which also served to help promote the work that is in the collection.
A huge thank you to you. The materials you produced, under enormous pressure, were superb. Again, a very big thank you.
Justice Edwin Cameron, The Constitutional Court of South Africa
